The Front Page vs. Oppo

Anyone else notice that sometimes the front page articles are just re-iterated stories from Oppo? I don't just mean the awesome stuff Automach and APIDA write either. Stories like the Streetview mechanic staged murder or Lego Mini were both on Oppo long before the FP.

I'm not saying that the Jalopbro's scour Oppo for story ideas but it just seems weird that there is such a cross over. Really I think it might even be for the best, Oppo is a bunch of internet gearheads, not formal writers, we are more concerned with making laughs and sharing our personal experiences than relaying a point.

Just thinking a H/T wouldn't hurt.

If someone in Oppo found something interesting it is also possible that an editor did the same or someone else emailed in a tip as well. This is usually the case. The editors are pretty good with hat-tips to us in Oppo, and don't have an issue pointing out where they get their stories.

They'll usually hat tip the Oppo author if they get a find a great idea here. Also, the Jalopbros are basically professional opponauts, so they tend to find the same stuff we do.

I think of it as a challenge to write up things you have tips for well enough so that it'll get FP'ed instead of just suggested/copied. Of course, that means you get ALL THE NOTIFICATIONS, but it's a mark of pride.

We have a great little community here. But it does exist to feed Jalopnik content, or at least that was likely it's original intention. What has been created is something a lot bigger. I'm constantly amazed at the difference in attitude and tolerance between the Oppo regulars and the FP weirdos. It's a nice place to be.

I have never been so I don't know, I am happy with just getting in Best of Oppo or Dusty actually liking the stuff I do on #TheRallyTakeover haha.

I think I had 17 notifications once, can't remember if it was bugging Brian about being rich or "Not racing, comparitive driving."

I do typically see them just seemed to be an increase of cross over. Not knocking them at all, probably really cool guys, and do a hell of a job.

I guess when you post to Oppo you do make it free for anyone on Gawker media to use, and unless you are someone like Automach you are doing it for the fun of it.

I like to believe it is because we are all like minded gear heads so our fp writers are finding out about stuff the same time a lot of us do. They share quite a few more oppo posts directly to the fp than they used to.

They do scour Oppo, but we post a lot of stuff on here and it's very possible that they don't see something we post in their excitement to post it on the FP.

Actually Oppo was never intended to feed Jalopnik. The original iteration was just called "off topic" as a place were the Jalop readers could go and talk, post weird stuff and just have a fun time. Then it became Oppositelock which was still secluded for awhile until the Kinja changeover. Then the authorship grew significantly and it became very easy for the FP to share. But the purpose of this place is still really just a hang out.
